A Towel that United Hearts: Dublin Hosts the Official Launch of the “Unity Towel – Victory Towel” Project
On 12 July 2026, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Dublin hosted the official Irish presentation of the international “Unity Towel – Victory Towel” project, a powerful initiative that brings together Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine from around the world.
The project was launched in Ireland by the Association of Ukrainians in the Republic of Ireland (AURI). The towel had already been introduced the previous day during an event organised by AURI’s partners, Ukrainian Volunteers of Ireland, marking the beginning of its journey across Ukrainian communities throughout Ireland.
Following the Divine Liturgy, attendees gathered for the ceremonial unveiling of the towel representing Ireland in this global initiative. The international Unity Towel – Victory Towel now consists of 110 embroidered towels from different countries, with a combined length of 165 metres, symbolising unity, resilience and unwavering support for Ukraine.
The event’s special guest was Tetiana Hryshchenko, the skilled craftswoman who personally embroidered Ireland’s contribution to the project. Her work now forms part of this unique worldwide symbol of solidarity.
Among the honoured guests was Yaroslav Ruban, Consul of Ukraine to Ireland, who emphasised that Ukrainians, wherever they live, must remain united. He noted that unity is the nation’s greatest strength and the foundation for supporting Ukraine and achieving victory.
Fr Vasyl Kornitskyi also addressed the audience, speaking about the profound spiritual meaning of the traditional Ukrainian embroidered towel, which symbolises life’s journey, blessing, prayer and hope. Today, he said, the Unity Towel has become a true Victory Towel, bringing people together through shared values, remembrance and love for Ukraine.
The celebration also featured a rich cultural programme. Poet Nadiia Postemska presented her original poem Victory Towel, written especially for the occasion. Her husband, Jonas Kriauklis, lead singer of the band Slava Ukraini, performed original songs based on her poetry. The audience also enjoyed performances by the band Slava Ukraini, Oksana Kurovets, Taisiia Verenko, and young performer Nikol Sachko.
One of the most moving moments of the day came when everyone joined together to sing the iconic Ukrainian song The Song of the Embroidered Towel (“Ridna Maty Moia”), creating a powerful symbol of the unity that continues to bind Ukrainians together, regardless of where they live.
The project is coordinated in Ireland by Halyna Royko, who will oversee its continued journey across the country. Presentations are already planned in Cork, Donegal, Cavan and Kerry, with further Ukrainian communities warmly invited to take part.
The Unity Towel – Victory Towel is more than an artistic initiative—it is a living symbol of Ukrainian identity, resilience and hope. It reminds us that, even far from home, Ukrainians remain united in preserving their heritage and supporting their homeland.
